Renew your RN Licence

If you currently hold an active-practising licence with the College and you renew your licence before November 1st, renew your licence at members.crnns.ca.  

1.  In order to meet the criteria for entry to the active-practising roster, a member must have met at least one of the following four options:

a) the hourly requirement of 1125 hours in the past five years or 450 hours in the year immediately preceding their application. The hourly requirements can only be met if the practice hours fall within the legislated definition of the practice of nursing. Volunteer hours cannot be used to meet the hourly requirement; or

b) have graduated from one of the following programs in the five years preceding their application:

a. a Nova Scotia nursing education program;
b. a Canadian nursing program;
c. a registered nurse re-entry program; or
d. an international nursing program. or

c) have completed a competence assessment and bridging education in the past 5 years; or

d) be enrolled in and attending one of the following nursing programs:

a. a post-RN baccalaureate degree program in nursing; or
b. a masters/doctorate degree program in nursing. 

2. Have completed the Building Your Profile™ self-assessment tool or an equivalent tool.

3. Not currently under investigation by any registration or licensing authority.

4. Have no criminal or disciplinary finding that would prohibit the practise of nursing in Nova Scotia.

5. Have provided relevant documentation if you have a criminal conviction for which you have not received a pardon.

6. Have advised the College’s Executive Director, in writing, within 30 days of any conviction under the Criminal Code (Canada) or the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (Canada).

7. Have submitted the application (members.crnns.ca) and fee.
