The Nursing Refresher (Re-Entry) Program is an individualized program for nurses eligible for registration in Nova Scotia. The program is offered through Grant MacEwan and approved by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (the College). Although Grant MacEwan College is physically located in Edmonton, Alberta, a program is offered in Halifax.
This self-paced program, which includes a theory and a clinical component, can be completed within four to twelve months. The theory component, consisting of 23 home study modules must be satisfactorily completed prior to beginning the clinical experience. The clinical component, which is offered in acute, community and long-term care settings, is arranged in cooperation with approved clinical agencies that are able to provide the required experience. Time spent in the clinical area is variable and flexible, but most learners take approximately four weeks to complete the objectives.
Confirmation of eligibility for registration with the College is a prerequisite for seeking admission to the re-entry program (forms will be provided with the program application).
Registration/orientation sessions are scheduled on a regular basis in Halifax and Cape Breton. Telephone orientations may be conducted for distance learners.
